From misty mountains to golden savannah to shimmering lakes, Uganda’s national parks demonstrate the finest work of nature. Each national park provides a unique experience, whether it’s tracking endangered gorillas on foot, gliding past hippos on the Nile, or observing lions sprawled beneath the acacia trees.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park allows you to encounter the majestic mountain gorillas, a humbling and unforgettable experience that includes Bird watching, Gorilla Trekking, and Gorilla Families found in different sectors that include the Rushaga sector and other experiences. Queen Elizabeth National Park has extensive plains, volcanic craters, Mweya peninsula and the Kazinga Channel with an incredible variety of wildlife that helps turn any game drive into a photographer’s paradise.

Travelling to Murchison Falls National Park represents another variation on the Nile, boat cruise, as it bursts from a narrow gorge with thunder and becomes a wide river full of animals like hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and birds. Kibale National Park provides a more low-key experience as you observe Uganda’s entertaining chimpanzees in a pristine setting. Kidepo Valley National Park is located in the remote northeast and rewards the adventurous with untouched wilderness and pristine landscapes in the Narus Valley that almost feel untouched and real.

Further southwest, Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is part of the Virunga Conservation Area, where you can encounter the rare golden monkeys and the famous Nyakagezi family of gorillas. Just nearby is Lake Mburo National Park, a tranquil oasis of rolling hills, acacia woodlands, and glimmering lakes full of zebra, impala, and eland, a wonderful place for walking safaris and horseback rides.

Pointing upward are the mountainous Rwenzori Mountains National Park, or “Mountains of the Moon“, where hikers ascend Africa’s third-highest peak, surrounded by glaciers and alpine meadows. Also exciting is Mount Elgon National Park, which extends across the Kenya-Uganda border and has beautiful calderas, caves, and waterfalls, a gem to hikers and nature lovers alike. Central in Uganda are Semuliki National Park and Toro-Semuliki Wildlife Reserve, which provide a sample of Central Africa with steaming hot springs, thick rainforests, and rare birds found nowhere else in East Africa.

Every national park in Uganda has a story to tell; each with its own wildlife, ancient forests, and communities living in harmony with the wild. If your interest is in getting up close with mountain gorillas, experiencing the thrill of the game drives, or simply taking a quiet boat safari through the rivers, Uganda’s natural beauty will not disappoint!
