Queen Elizabeth National Park Entrance Fees : Queen Elizabeth National Park is the second most popular and frequently visited national park in Uganda due to beautiful terrains, bio diversity and thrilling wildlife. This park is situated in the south western part of Uganda and occupies an area of nearly 2000 Sq. km, the park has a landscape that consists of Savannah, crater lakes, Wetland and Kazinga Channel. Convenience of physical contact with lions, elephants and chimpanzees or simply relaxation in the fantastic landscape of the Rift Valley, it is all available for lovers here.
A major point of concern to look at when planning is the cost of entrance to the park. Knowledge of these fees will assist a person in planning their Uganda Safari and have the most of their time.
Entrance charges to Queen Elizabeth National Park
Like with many other National parks in Uganda, the fees charged on entry into Queen Elizabeth National Park vary depending on whether a visitor is a resident or a foreigner. The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) classifies visitors into three groups; East African citizens, foreign residents and foreign non-residents.
East African Citizens
It’s important to note that citizens of the member countries in the East African Community are Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi and they enjoy discounted charges when it comes to park entry fees. The entrance fees for East African citizens are as follows:
Adults: Twenty thousand Uganda shillings only (UGX 20, 000) per person
Children: UGX 5,000 per person
Ugandan pupils /Students (groups): UGX 3,000 and UGX 5000(For tertiary institutions/universities)
Foreign Residents
It is cheaper for foreign residents that are residing and working in Uganda or other EAC member countries than the international tourist. To be considered an alien, a resident document i.e. work permit or resident’s permit is required. The entrance fees for foreign residents are:
Adults: USD 30 per person
Children: USD 10 per person
Foreign Non-Residents
The international tourists are charged higher fees than the East African citizens or the foreigners with residency in the region. These fees help to support conservation and maintenance of Queen Elizabeth National Park in a very big way. The entrance fees for foreign non-residents are:
Adults: USD 40 per person
Children: USD 20 per person
Vehicle Entry Fees
On top of the per-person entrance fees, visitors who drive into Queen Elizabeth National Park must pay a fee for vehicles. This fee depends on the type and size of the car; the fee covers the ability of the car to access the park for the next 24 hours.
Saloon cars: UGX 20,000
Minibuses: UGX 30,000
Omnibuses: UGX 30,000
Tour company vehicles (4WD): UGX 30,000
Buses and Lorries: UGX 200,000
Over landers: UGX 100,000
This vehicle fee assists to care for features such as roads in the park, so that visitors can move safely and conveniently during their game drives and outings.
Unexpected extra activities’ charges in Queen Elizabeth National Park
The general ticket fee gives a general admission to the park but other activities within the park require charging of extra fees. These activities include wildlife viewing/ photographic safaris, boat cruises, guided walks as well as chimpanzee trekking. Here is a list of some of the usual prescribed activities with their costs.
Game Drives
Among the things that attract consciousness of Queen Elizabeth National Park there is game drives. The game drives are a great chance to view a large variety of animals where you might see elephants, buffalo, lions, antelope and so on. Safari tours can be done privately with your own vehicle or can be arranged with a tour operator in getting a game guide.
Night Game Drives: For the adventurous guests, there are night game drives that give you a chance to see animals like hyenas, leopards and owls. Costs are usually between 30 USD and 40 USD per person based on the tour company.
Kazinga Channel Boat Cruise
Boat ride along the Kazinga Channel is one of the most popular activities in the park since there are many hippos and crocodiles not forgetting the beautiful bird species. Because this is a two hours trip this event is suitable for those interested in bird watching and photography.
Boat cruise fee: Around USD 30 for the foreign nonresidents, USD 25 for foreign residents, UGX 30,000 for the East African passport holders
Chimpanzee Tracking in Kyambura Gorge.
This is especially if one wishes to track chimpanzee and any other primates in their natural habitats, a stand out activity is chimps in the Kyambura Gorge. The area also has a small population of chimps and they can only be tracked in the rainforest here.
Chimpanzee tracking permit: USD 50 for foreign nonresidents, USD40 for foreign residents while the East African community citizens will pay UGX 30,000
Nature Walks and Birdwatching in Queen Elizabeth National Park
For those who want to tour the park on foot, guided nature walks and bird watching is also offered to those wishing to get closer to nature. These walks may take you to Maramagambo Forest, Mweya Peninsula or Ishasha where you find tree-climbing lions.
Guided day nature walk fee: USD15 per head for foreign non-residents, USD 10 for foreign residents and 10,000Ush for East African residents
Birdwatching fee is USD 30 for foreign nonresidents, USD 25 for foreign residents and UGX 20,000 for East African passport holders.
Park entrance fee validity and regulation.
Entry charges to Queen Elizabeth National Park permit the visitors to stay for only 24 hours from the time of entry in the park. Those intending to spend a day or more in the park will be charged an extra fee for a second successive day and any other subsequent days. This time limit is well worthy of note, especially if you are spending a night at one of the lodges and campsites within the park.
