Queen Elizabeth national park was established in 1952 and covers an area of 1,979 sqqkm. The park benefits from its location along Uganda’s rain corridor which keep it’s relatively green for much of the year.
The name was kazinga national park but later it was changed to Queen Elizabeth national park after the queen’s visit in Uganda. Queen Elizabeth is a home to over 600 species of birds, 95 of mammals and 10 primates. Chimpanzees are the most popular primates in the park and can be spotted in maramagambo forest or kyambura Gorge.
Queen Elizabeth national park is the best place to spot tree climbing lions in the world. It is also hope to one of the largest collections of hippos on earth. The kazinga channel in Queen Elizabeth national park has been described as one of the best places to view wildlife in Africa. While on about cruise at the kazinga channel, one can spot lions, Uganda kobs, hyenas and leopards among other creatures. Queen Elizabeth national park is the closest safari park to the mountain gorillas.
Highlight itinerary
Day 1: pick up and transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park
Our guide will pick you very early morning from your hotel in Kampala before starting the long journey to Queen Elizabeth national park. This journey takes about 6hours and goes through amazing countryside with beautiful landscapes with views of beautiful sceneries of western part of Uganda. Visitors can decide to stop at the equator crossing in kayabwe for photographs and chances to count yourself among few who have stood in two hemispheres at the same time.as you continue to travel you will be able to see western savannah lands with long-horned cattle and local people going about their daily business. Lunch will be in mbarara city or any other location depending on how the trip goes
You will arrival at the park early afternoon. Check into your lodge, after checking in you will drive for the afternoon boat cruise at kkazinga channel. The kazinga channel has one of the largest collection of hippos in Africa. It is birders paradise with countless water, resident and migratory birds. Prepare for the treat as you spot the buffaloes, crocodiles, hippo, and elephants around the kazinga channel. Visitors will also be able to do bird watching like pelicans, knob-billed, duck, African jacana, yellow wagtail, common squacco heron, flamingos, kingfishers, saddle-billed stork. Primates will also be spotted like white and black monkey, baboons and vervet monkeys.
Dinner and overnight will be served at your hotel.
Day 2: Game drive at kasenyi plains.
Wake up very early, take breakfast as you wait for your guide to pick you from the lodge, drive you to mweya peninsula for morning game drive since its one of the best place to go for a game drive while on a Ugandan safari. During the visit to peninsular you’re able to spot the animals, Lake Katwe, Edward and George. Animals expect to see hyenas, leopards, buffaloes, mongooses, elephants, Uganda kob, lions, warthogs, waterbucks, and other type of antelopes. As you enjoy the game drive, watch out the African skimmer, black-rumped buttonquails, black bee eater, chapins flycatcher, fish eagles, martial eagles, verreaux’s eagle owls, the white tailed lark and pink-backed pelicans.
After your game drive, you will go and have lunch in your hotel before starting your journey back to Kampala or Entebbe. Arrival time in Kampala is in the evening.
