The 8 days Uganda birding and wildlife safari takes you to the top birdwatching destinations as well as spotting several wildlife animals in the top savannah national parks in Uganda. While on this 8 Days Uganda birding and wildlife safari, you will visit places such as Bigodi Swamp, Murchison Falls National Park, Kibale National Park and Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival At Entebbe And Transfer To A Hotel

Depending on your location, the Uganda safari guide will pick you up and brief you about the safari. After the briefing, you will be transferred to your hotel in Entebbe for lunch. After lunch, you will head to Entebbe city for a city tour where you will visit amazing sites such as the zoo, Kitoro market and shopping malls within the city. After the tour, you will return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Morning Birding In Mabamba Swamp And Transfer To Kampala City

After breakfast, you will drive to Mabamba Swamp for the shoebill stork and other water birds, such as the African lesser jacana, Allen’s and purple gallinules, the purple and common squacco heron and the northern brown-throated weaver, among others.

After lunch, you will drive back to Kampala for an evening birding safari around Kampala. You will also visit any of the cultural sites, such as the museum, Baha’i temple, Namugongo shrine, Kabaka’s palace and Kasubi tombs, among others. After the visit, you will return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay

Day 3: Transfer To Murchison Falls National Park

After breakfast, you will drive through the Luwero Triangle to Murchison Falls National Park with a stopover for lunch in Masindi. On arrival, you will head to your lodge for relaxation, dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 4: Morning Game Drive And Afternoon Boat Cruise

In the morning after breakfast, you will head out to the park for a morning game drive, where you will be able to see bird species such as black-winged Abyssinian rollers, red-faced barbets, swallow-tailed and blue-breasted rollers, among others. Animal species such as Rothschild’s giraffe, Cape buffalo, elephant and waterbuck, among others.

After lunch, you will head out for an afternoon boat cruise where you will have an opportunity to spot birds such as the yellow-billed Kampala, African open-billed stork, African finfoot, thick-knee, rock pratincole, giant woodland, grey-headed and saddle-billed, among others. After the boat cruise, you will return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 5: Transfer To Kibale National Park

In the morning after breakfast, you will check out of the lodge and embark on the journey to Kibale National Park. You will pass through Hoima, where there are a few papyrus swamps, which are habitats for birds like the white-winged warbler and papyrus gonolek. On arrival, you will head to your lodge for relaxation, dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 6: Chimpanzee Trekking And Birding In Bigodi Swamp

Early morning after breakfast, you will head to the park’s headquarters for a briefing. After the briefing, you will enter the forest in search of the habituated chimpanzees. The trek takes 4 to 6 hours, and on locating the chimpanzees, you will spend an hour with them as you watch them and learn their behaviours. After the trek, you will be driven back to the lodge for lunch.

After lunch, you will head to Bigodi Swamp for an afternoon of birding. The forest is rewarding, and bird species that can be spotted include yellow-spotted and yellow barbet, chestnut-winged, narrow-tailed starlings, blue-throated brown and superb sunbirds, among others. After the visit, you will return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 7: Transfer To Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast, you will check out of the lodge and embark on the journey to Queen Elizabeth National Park. One can enjoy birdwatching en route to the park since there are over 650 recorded bird species. On arrival at the park, you will check into your lodge and have lunch.

Later, after lunch, you will head for a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, which joins two water bodies, that is, Lake George and Lake Edward. While on the boat cruise, you will see animals such as antelopes, buffaloes, and elephants as they come to drink water; hippos and crocodiles in water; and bird species such as water thick-knee, three-banded plover, grey-headed gull, plain martin, yellow-billed oxpecker, lesser swamp-warbler, and African crake, among others. After the boat cruise, you will return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 8: Morning Game Drive And Transfer Back To Kampala

After morning breakfast, you will head to the park for an early morning game drive within the park. You will have birdwatching in the Ishasha sector, and birds include the arrow-marked and Sharpe’s babbler, trilling, wing-snapping, white-headed barbet, yellow-fronted tinkerbird and spot-flanked, among others.

After the birdwatching experience, you will embark on the journey back to Kampala with lunch en route. You will have a stopover at the equator in Kayabwe for photos and also buy souvenirs. After, you will proceed with the journey to Kampala, and on arrival, you will be dropped off at the Entebbe airport for your flight back home.
